I've never encountered it on a girl, and I hope I never do - my Welsh great-great-great grandfather, Morgan Davies, would never recover. As it is, I'd use it if I had enough sons.

Morgana could work I suppose, but the character isn't particularly appealing!

Lots of American girls are named Morgan :P I've actually only met one male Morgan here and a lot of female Morgans, but I still think of it as a relatively masculine name.

I like Morgana more though, and I think it's appealing enough especially since the character is good in a lot of adaptations.

Separate, but perhaps not? I'd have to do more research (I'm not an expert of course) but given that Morcant is an ancient Celtic name and it and Muirgen both mean essential "of the sea" I wouldn't be surprised if the two are etymologically related further back. That being said, Welsh often does its own thing. ;)
