I don’t think it’s ridiculous, but I don’t think it’s a super great name either.
The first thing I think of is the Biblical Saul, who was not a very nice fellow.
After that, I think of it as a Hispanic name, because there is a huge Hispanic population near me, and a LOT of little Hispanic boys are named Saul, pronounced Sow-ool... and I really don’t like that either.
