[Opinions] Kaija
I guess it is pronounced KY-ya, it is a Finnish name. What do you think?Anyone from Finland here? Is it also used in Finland on its own? Is Kaja used on its own?Which one do you like better?Kaja (KAH-ya) or Kaija (KY-ya)?

I'm from Finland and I can confirm that Kaija is pronounced as KY-yah. All the diminutives of Katariina listed in the BtN database are used on their own and aren't real nicknames anymore except for Kata (which is the only currently used nickname for Katariina I know). I find Kaija the most dated of all the diminutives of Katariina: it's most common on women born in the 1940's and 1950's. It also reminds me of parrots, because the Finnish word for parrot is "papukaija". Kaja has similar vibe to me whereas Kaia is much more modern and trendier.

Love your Finnish parrot! An Afrikaans parrot is a papegaai, with the g a fricative 'like ch as in Scottish loch'. It's got to be the same word, surely?
