Could Cider ever work, as a name?

I can see somebody using it, but that doesn't mean it works; somebody somewhere has probably or will probably use any word you can think of as a name.
There's no ambiguity about cider; it's one thing and one thing only. IT doesn't have any symbolic meaning and no history as anything other than apple juice and the only varations are hot or cold and hard or soft cider.
(And most of the hot cider I have tried tasted like hot stomach acid.)

I don't think so, really. I'd never use Sherry or Brandy (or Sherri or Brandi), but they are close enough to Merry and Mandy to seem convincing. But Cider ... unique, and not in a good way.
That said, I knew a Natalie whose mns are Sherry Amstella. Her parents met in a pub where her (future) mother was a barmaid, and Amstel (Dutch beer) and Sherry were their favourite drinks. I've got an uncomfortable feeling that she might have yet another mn, but if she does, I've forgotten it and we've lost touch, so I'll never know.

I think not. Cider. Hmm, no. I can't see it. Plus I don't like the sound of the word. In my head, I hear it said in the worst kind of southern accent: "sahhy-durr."
