[Surname] Re: meaning of mulcahy

Relax ...it's an easy one for Irish name books ...it's from Ó Maolcathaigh, from the first name Cathach ...'O' means obviously, "descended of" (roughly) and 'maol' means "devotee of" (it's actually from a word meaning {I believe} censure ...the act of monks shaving the middle of their heads) and 'cathaigh' meaning "warlike" ...'cath' meaning basically "war" ... there are many names that are similar ...

so what is that mean a little less long winded? :)
Sorry ...it means "your descended from the followers of a warlike person" ...
THANKS!
