I would use Asa and pair it with James. That way I could call him AJ. Or maybe Ace.
Honestly they're both ugly sounding names and are too Biblical for me as a non Christian. They also sound a little sleazy.
Couples don't need matching names?? Asa could be married to a Japanese woman and Ira could be married to an Italian man?
Let's go with 1700s America.

I thought that I should have asked for sister's names and not wives, and this response has persuaded me. Didn't mean any harm. :)
