Eugene is a name with rich imagery. I imagine him as an incredibly posh Edwardian, probably also a brilliant scientist, quite stout, has a habit of trailing off in the middle of the sentence, the least organised human being on Earth. He has a beautiful and very competent wife who says YOOuh-jeeen in a sing-song voice to gently remind him that he poured tea on his cornflakes again.
Anselm is quiet, sophisticated, intelligent, cold. It feels like a very grey name, if that makes sense? Also, I feel an Anselm would be a navy admiral who collects butterflies and very rarely laughs.

I don't mind it when names of siblings begin with the same letter, as long as the sound isn't too similar. However, Ezra and Eugene have such different associations to me that I cannot imagine them on brothers.
