This was the Name of the Day a few days ago!
What do you guys think of Cyril? I’ve been thinking about it for a while and I like it a lot.
Do you like any of its variants (Cirillo, Kyrillos, Cyriacus, Kyriakos, etc.)? What about the feminine forms (Cyrilla, Cyrielle, Cyriaca, Kyriaki, etc.)?

I like Cyril, I think it sounds much better in Eastern European languages. I'm used to Americans and English-speakers mispronouncing it… even I tend to mispronounce it in English. It just doesn't feel intuitive. And I feel bad for that name because I want it to work well in English :/ but it just doesn't sound good

I’ve been pronouncing it wrong the whole time...
I’ve been saying it as “SIE-ril” when it’s actually “SIR-uhl”. Those cereal comments make a lot more sense now, and I don’t think I like Cyril now as much as I initially did.

I've been pronouncing it that way too, and I'll continue to do so lol, my sister's classmate was named Cyril and pronounced it that way so w/e
It doesn't make sense that we pronounce Cyril and Cyrus differently when they both come from Greek and are both technically wrong (should be a hard K sound)

Maybe, but Cyrillic is pronounced with a seer!

I thought it was either SIE-ril or SEER-ul. SEER-ul would make more sense with the cereal comments.

I don’t like Cyril. The name brings up the image of a wealthy middle aged or elderly man who is very much a stuffed shirt. I might use it as a name for a character in a story but never for a child.
I actually like Kyrillos and Kyriakos. I think these names are very usable in Greece or for someone who wishes to honor their Greek ethnicity.
I don’t like the female versions. They sound pretentious to me.

I only like certain kinds of Cyril; Lucky Charms, Rice Krispies, Great Grains.
