I like it, but because I think the Temperance Movement sucked, and I wouldn't trust my daughter to wear it ironically, I wouldn't use it. I like the nickname Tempe.

I think the virtue of temperence is interesting and valuable, but I think it gets a bad rap for being tied to the Temperence movement, which was more about abstinence from alcohol rather than moderation. I would not use Prudence, Patience, or Temperence as names although I wouldn't mind using a name with those meanings.

Way too Puritan and slightly tacky. While it definitely is good to be temperate with alcohol, having a name that means that isn’t exactly desirable. Now that I think about it, I don’t like Prudence or Patience either.

I like the sounds, but I fear it's too closely associated with that one TV character (I've never seen Bones, but I know the character's name is Temperance). Also, naming a girl "moderation" doesn't sit well with me.

Nothing wrong with being temperate, in either alcohol use or in behavior in general. But the name is butt-ugly and I think the only reason anybody even thinks of it as a name now is because of Temperance Brennan's character.

I'm practically tt - just don't enjoy the stuff, no principles or problems - but if I'd been named Temperance I think it might well have driven me to drink. Just to prove I could ...

Don't like it

I immediately think of Temperance Brennan from the show "Bones", but I did have a friend in high school whose mom's name is Temperance.
I do really like the sound (plus it's another less popular name you can get the nickname Emmy from, which is a win in my book)

I think it's fun, but Tempy is so hypothetical - like what an awkward syllable for a name to land on, it's so billowy and fragile. I'd probably get used to it.

This is making me think of Esperance, an old fashioned word for Hope I think.
