I immediately think of the character from the tv show Clarissa Explains It All. I loved that show and I loved her name. I don't think of it as old fashioned at all, mainly because of that show. Dated, yes, but not old fashioned. It feels very 80s/90s, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. The name gives me vibes of Clueless and The Babysitter's Club and All That.

I love the name Clarissa. It's on my list. It has a lovely vintage, Victorian feel to it. The only thing that holds me back is that I have so many bad associations with the name Larissa. That's why I tend to prefer Claire and Clara. But if I wipe those associations from my mind, I adore this name and would use it in a heartbeat if my SO approved of it. I always liked the combo Eloise Clarissa.

I prefer Clarisse. Clarissa is a little too much for me, although it's not awful. I had a teacher who pronounced Clarisse the exact same way as Clarissa and it got on my nerves.

Prefer ClarisseThere was another post on this name a while ago, in which I said that I prefer Clarisse. I still do.

I quite like it, though it does come across as wannabe-posh. It would be a good mn; as a fn, I'd use Clare.

I don't think it sounds old fashioned, because -issa names were popular pretty recently. I'm not actually sure if I've met any Clarissas IRL. I assume I have but I can't think of any specific people. If I have met one or more, it wouldn't have stood out to me against all the other issas like Melissa, Larissa, Carissa, Marissa, and Alissa/Alyssa. I think Clarissa is a little too girly and spoiled.

I really love this name. I realize it has a very strong 80s valley girl feel to it... but... w/e it's wavy and young and fun to say. It's a cute name.
