I can't see using it as anything other than a middle name, if I were really prioritizing Mercy at that point in my life. I think Mercy is a really fabulous virtue, and it's a pretty sound and a cute-looking name. However, it brings to mind suffering and penitence, so it's too solemn for my taste. I think I'd like it on someone else though.

I like it. The parents wanted someting gentle. A little pioneery but that isn't a bad thing, ya know

It's a very Puritan vibe, but that doesn't mean very much today because names along that line are trendy in general now.
I don't think it's a very attractive name. The quality of mercy is good, but since mercy is so often something one begs for, no, I'm not fond of that. Also, it is liable to be misheard and misspoken as Marcy, an annoying name to me.

I love Mercy. I think it is one of the better virtues and sounds nice too. The parents might be religious, but I wouldn't assume so. I don't get a pioneer feel at all. It feels somewhat modern to me though I know it isn't.

I quite like Mercy. I wouldn't assume her parents are religious. I do think of the Puritans, but the association is more historical than religious or doctrinaire to me.

It sounds nice but I don’t really like the look of it.

I don’t hate it but I wouldn’t use it for a child. think it sounds like a 17th century Puritan name so I might use it in a story that takes place in those times.

I don't like it. It feels very Puritan to me -- every time I hear it, I automatically think of Mercy from The Witch of Blackbird Pond.

I like most virtue names as middle names. Mercy would be pretty with many names. I do know that many believers use virtue names for their biblical significance but there are also people without religious affiliations that like virtue names for their meaning. And why not? Many of them are very pretty.
I think many people exhibit characteristics of their name. What a great quality to have to be merciful and extend it to others.

I do like it. I am not super religious and I'd use it. We are talking for a girl, right? Because Percy was mentioned as an alternative and that is a boy's name.

It is like a Puritan's name from the 1600s. It is okay for me but I will not say it is a good name. First, Merci means thanks in French. I recommend Percy.
