Shekira
Shekara (pron. Sh-uh-car-ah...a little different)
Checira (pron. Check-ear-ah...diff. again.)
Shakeyra
Michalkira (pron. Mitch-ock-eer-ah)

I've met Shekara, Shekira, Michalkira and Michalka and I read about Checira on the internet, aswell as Shakeyra in the newspaper. Shakira is the singer...you all know that right? WDYT?

I dont like any of these names, sorry, they all look very made up. Plus, I dont like the singer much.
I prefer Shakira. It is a really nice Arabic name and I like the meaning.

I am not overly concerned about the pop star connection. To me, and this may sound weird or bad but no offense is intended, it sounds like a black name to me, though I realize it's not, but it reminds me of Shanequa and Shauntaevia and some others I've heard of. Please don't mistake me, I don't think there is anything wrong with names like these, but where I am, there is a certain stereotype.
I definitely prefer it spelled Shakira. And I like the pop star!

It's not that I don't like the singer, a few of her catchier songs have made it onto my mp3 player, but pop culture influenced names really leave me cold. Something seems so superficial about them.
It's really impossible to judge the name outside of that context. I think I'd like it, but I really can't say.

I love just plain Shakira. People might ask if the child was named after the singer, but I think it is pretty left as is.
