[Opinions] Tupac
I actually think that Tupac is a really cool name. Cool meaning and easy to pronounce. But is it *too* associated with the rapper Tupac Shakur, to the point where it could kind of handicap someone's personal identity due to constant comparisons, jokes and so forth?

Yes. A handicap. But Tupac was really cool and if you're into honoring him I'd say go for it.

People have named their kids Prince, Madonna, Aaliyah, Elvis, Rihanna etc

I think Tupac as a name is similar to Beyonce. If you don't like the association with the singer, I'd say it's off limits.
But I wouldn't necessarily say the association is a handicap.

Yeah, exactly. I know a few young men and little boys with the name Tupac. Have yet to meet a kid named Beyonce but I'm sure they're out there. Just because a famous person made it well known doesn't necessarily make it off limits. I would definitely assume the person's parents are a fan though. And nothing wrong with that. People name their kids after famous people and characters all the time...

It's way too similar, and does sound an awful lot like two-pack.

I think it's too closely tied to Tupac Shakur; most of us in the US have no reference point other than him.
And it also sounds like two-pack, you know, not a six-pack but just two.

Yes, it immediately made me think of the rapper. I think it's not usable. I didn't even know it was his real name, I thought it was "two pack" or some word play like Eminem. I just googled it and found out it is indeed a first name. I'd still not like to be named Tupac. It is too much of a one-person name like Madonna or Beyoncé.

same - I also thought it was a pun and a made up stage name
