Although some name nerds think Cheryl is hopelessly dated to the Baby Boomer era, there are a couple of younger born well known Cheryls, for example, "Girl Meets World" actress Cheryl Texiera who was born in 1982.
Most people aren't nerds and they are either indifferent to, or actively despise, intellectual supremacy.

I like the sound of Cheryl but it is very dated.

It's interesting to me that its meaning/origin and popularity/time overlaps with Darlene, yet they sound nothing alike.

If you’re so concerned with being liked that you’d avoid excelling in an area of study just to ensure it, you should probably also be concerned about diplomacy and manners.
Cheryl is very dated, but beyond that it’s lacking in depth. The history and meaning behind a name give it character, and this name has neither of those things. It’s just a made-up collection of sounds.

I really like Cheryl. I'd use it, just as I'd use Susan or Judith.

Just because a name didn't completely die out after a generation doesn't mean it's not dated. And 1982 was quite a while ago too.
As for the name itself I find it hilarious, I'm not sure why. Not in a ridiculing way but in a "can't help but smile when I hear it" way. I think a toddler Cheryl would be an absolute delight.

It still feels super dated. I think I could see Sherry making a comeback more quickly than Cheryl for some reason. Both were popular around the same time and sound similar. But Sherry feels less frumpy somehow.

It is dated. 1982 was almost 40 years ago. It was unfashionable back then already but still used sometimes, just like Susan or Linda.
I do think that Cheryl could come back but it will take 50 years or so. Maybe 30.

Cheryl reminds me WAY to much of Cheryl Blossom from Riverdale, but otherwise, the name is cute. :)

But I guess we shouldn't be surprised; funny a person should sneer about that when they evidently think that just because he can think of one Cheryl who isn't a baby boomer means the name isn't dated.
