Help[Opinions] Gillian, Jillian, Gillean
I had to do a three hour zoom training yesterday and this was the name of one of the other participants.
What do others think of this name? What is your favourite spelling?
Like my previous post on Darren + Lee I think this is a name that was last really popular in the 80s in the UK. Despite this being a name of my generation though I only ever met a handful of people called Gillian/Jillian and one called Gillean

I think it's very pretty, and I wouldn't mind using it. I far prefer Jillian, Gillian doesn't look very nice.

Gillean is an abomination! Even Jilly-Ann would be preferable.
I prefer Gillian. Jillian is etymologically correct, but perhaps it's just too close to Julian for comfort? Or maybe I'm just set in my ways. Anyway, I've seen many Gillian people and only one Jillian so the majority seems to concur.
The only problem is Gill! I instinctively pronounce it like the fish's body part or the liquid measure, but using Jill as a nn for Gillian is counter-intuitive. My solution, inside my head, is to keep Gillian as a mn. Which I gladly would: I like it a lot.

I've known several in the US. Still know a couple. I like the look of Gillian. But the pronunciation seems to confuse people. They want to pronounce it with a hard G.
