[Opinions] Norma
I've been thinking about Norma a lot lately (probably because of Norma Shearer), and noisynora's thread from a few days ago prompted me to post about it. While I'm bothered by the name's proximity to "norm" and "normal," I find it so warm and even soothing. What do you all think?Combos are challenging because ornate names tend to overwhelm Norma, but I'll try:Norma Cecilia / Cecily
Norma Celestine
Norma Daphne
Norma Delphine
Norma Eloise
Norma Eugenie
Norma Eulalie
Norma Felicity
Norma Genevieve
Norma Guinevere
Norma Gwendolen
Norma Ingrid
Norma Juliet
Norma Larkspur
Norma Leonie
Norma Nadine
Norma Rosalind / Rosaline
Norma Rosalie
Norma Roxane
Norma Valentine
Norma Violet
Norma Vivien / Vivienne
Norma Winifred
Norma Xanthe

I actually really like it. It gives me the same warm feeling that Nora does, which HAS to be due to the similar sounds because my first thought, when I hear Norma, is Norma Bates from Psycho. It sounds veeeery frumpy in Danish but I actually really appreciate that quality about it. Dusty, cobwebby, excentric, darling, old woman-ish.

Norma isn't on my list, but I do think it's a nice name. I've never given it much thought...maybe that's because my uncle's name is Norman and I'm not fond of him. As a note of interest, his wife/my aunt's name is Dorma.I like these...Norma Cecily (My favorite from the list. Such a sweet combo.)
Norma Celestine
Norma Genevieve
Norma Leonie
Norma Violet
Norma Winifred

Marilyn MonroeMy immediate association would be with Marilyn Monroe. Then the Elton John song, Candle in the Wind. So there is an air of sadness about the name, I think. Norma Shearer did give it a spunkier feel, though. And I do get the warm vibe you feel, too.

It's homely, sorry. Nowadays no one wants to be normal, it has even become a bit of an insult (=boring). I think it doesn't work these days. In the 50s people wanted to fit in, nowadays not so much. I think of a suppressed 50s housewife who had to bury all her dreams.Norman, on the other hand, kind of works for me. But I don't think of "normal" when I hear it. Lorna works too.
