Y doesn't have to be the surname, for example, if this person were a rapper or entertainer and XRAY was an assumed name. People change their surnames too. I know someone who changed her surname to Paris, for example. The Y could be a word and doesn't necessarily have to be a "name."

Sure, but no rapper is gonna have this super formal name as their alias. It'll be something like 'Xtra Rad Always Young' (lol). And yeah people can change their surnames but I can't see XRAY happening by accident, it would be a deliberate choice on the parents part.

I do see your point. But, only a few years ago no one was considering even half the names and spellings people give their children now. Once people get tired of merely spelling Kate 400 different ways, they will name their kid K.A.T.E. with each letter representing a different word.
