Alberta's 2005 popularities are out too!http://governmentservices.gov.ab.ca/vs/top10_names.cfm. The full lists are more inclusive than British Columbia's: Alberta includes all names, even those used less than five times.I haven't been able to track down the other provinces' popularities. They always seem to be buried deep within the governments' stat sites. :-/

Yikes, Miranda! Presumably all those little Albertan girls "named" Baby (in 11th place) were actually just waiting for their parents to find the perfect name for them ... or are there that many really strange adults in Alberta?Interesting that Baby doesn't make it into the top 25 for boys, whose names are presumably less affected by kre8iviti and fashion and therefore present less of a challenge to the namers?Thank you for a lot of fun, ma'am!

When children are listed as Baby on the birth certificate, it means that either they have left the hospital before the parents chose a name, or (unfortunately more likely) the baby was never given a name because it was stillborn or died shortly after birth. If you check the raw numbers, you will find that there were 118 boys listed as Baby in Alberta for 2005 and 124 girls. That's probably not a significant difference. The reason Baby shows up on the Top 25 for girls and not boys is therefore an artifact of there being many more boys given the top names than there are girls given the top names. Parents are more varied in the names they give girls.

Wow, I didn't see that!I've been to Alberta once, ostensibly to attend a family wedding but actually to go to the West Edmonton Mall, but that was many years ago and I don't remember much of it. All I remember is 1. missing the majority of the wedding because Dad had to iron his pants, and 2. nearly getting drowned in the wave pool at the Mall. So, I can't say if there are a lot of weird people in Alberta. Sorry!

Nice format! It's so easy to add Lucia and Lucy, or all the C/Kaitlyn variations, and get a clear picture.Late? Perhaps ... but worth the wait.
