Possible name? I like it most for a boy, but which sex can you see it on? Do you like it? Combo ideas appreciated :)

It does sound nice, but it also comes off as really preachy. I would not recommend using it.

I have a hard time with the concept of religious redemption. In fact, I don’t believe it’s necessary that anyone would need to die (Jesus) to make us able to be loved by God.
Such a belief implies that God did not create us the way he wanted, or even that something not manifested by God created us, and that we should be penitent and consider ourselves unworthy since birth (Psalm 51, my LEAST favorite psalm).
The idea that we need to be redeemed in the first place is exactly what made me stop considering myself as Christian, and now refer to myself as “undefined”. It’s a lot easier to simply believe that God loves us, and forgives us for our human errors, which are paid for on earth, not punished a second time in the afterlife.
I could not think of a more inappropriate name to bestow on a human child.

You just voiced the problems I found myself having with Christianity in primary school, but I couldn't quite voice what it was then, and you described it in a cleaner, less rambly way than I'd do now lol

Oh, no. It's such a loaded word. With an overall positive meaning but like, it implies there being something that requires redeeming for. Honestly, I'd rather go with Infallible than Redemption as a name if we're shooting for extremely weird, loaded names with religious overtones. Or Ineffable is a good one, too, I'd even consider Salvation. Hard pass on Redemption, though.

I like it as a Millennial puritan sort of name, like naming your kid Riker, Indi, Neo, or Cloud. It's satisfyingly weird. It has a good sound, I can see why you enjoy it. That "mpt" part is good. Imagine going by Red and when people ask if it's a nickname you tell them it's short for REDEMPTION! I don't know about you guys but I'd seriously love coming across that irl.
I think on a boy it almost works, on a girl it's way too preachy and has a lot of gender baggage.
I honestly think it needs a middle name that is as ridiculous or pop culture-y, because pairing it with a classic name like James or Daniel takes it way into Bible-thumping territory.
I think it'd also pair well with a surname-name for some reason. And extra points if it's also from pop culture, just go for it I say

I can't see it on any human whatsoever, and I hope I never do.
Is there any evidence about what people with Puritan names - real Puritan people at the time - were actually known as? Would a teacher have called Praise-God lazy and inattentive? Might a grandparent have handed a plate of strawberries to little Redemption, or to Dempy? Or was everyone so uniformly Puritan that only the full name would do?
