[Opinions] Re: Mary vs. Margaret
I honestly don't like either of these, they don't even seem that timeless to me, just old-fashioned. Like whenever I see there's a character named Mary in a book or movie (that isn't historically based) I always think "wow I guess they forgot to pick a name for the character and just used a filler, what a random choice" and whenever I see a Margaret I think "ok, so this person is supposed to be a a severe, miserable fuddy-duddy, I see". Both names are simultaneously generic and yet also have too many stereotypes attached to them to be truly "timeless" for me. Timeless (for me) is something like Anna or Julia. If I *had* to pick on pain of death I guess I'd pick Margaret because I like the meaning and there are more opportunities to call her something that isn't Margaret.
