I'm never having children, but if I wanted them, I would be fine linking my kid's name with mine in some way, but it's not a burning desire or need. I'd just be open to it.
Oddly, every serious partner I've ever had, when we had the "kids?" discussion, wanted to incorporate my name into a potential daughter's name, but not their own in a son's name. I thought that was very interesting.
I think my first name does genuinely make a nice middle (it's very "warming"), but I wouldn't repeat my middle name the way the two mothers you mentioned did, because I don't care for it as much. I have noticed that's a pattern that many mothers seem to enjoy - giving daughters the same middle name that they have. I have a couple of cousins who did that too. Curiously it's almost ALWAYS done with those filler middles, like Marie, Lynn, Dawn, Rose, heck even Belle is a bit filler. I find it fascinating.
