Message: "Ethela" - Behind the Name

Ethela is the name of designer Vera Wang's new grandniece and I find it so interesting! What I really like is the -thela ending, but it also feels a little clunky to say with Ethel in there. I'd like to hear how they pronounce it.

PS. I love how stylish Vera Wang's family is tho, her brother is named Kenneth and her daughters are Cecilia and Josephine :)

I think that what bugs me about Ethela is the way the -a suffix is attached to Ethel, or aedhel, which is itself a prefix. Where's the Missing Middle? And, yes, pronunciation has got to be an issue: ETHela? eTHEEla? eTHELLa? And I don't enjoy Ethel anyway!

It's a bit awkward -- I'm not sure how to pronounce it, and none of the options appeals to me. Ethel is much lovelier.

It's gorgeous. I love it, first time I've ever heard it. Ethel is old lady, but Ethela sounds more modern and pretty. It works well with Cecelia and josephine

I think the reason I'm not fond of this name is because it reminds me of the word "lethal". But it is an interesting name.
