What do you think of when you hear the name Huxley with Hux for short?
I came across it for the first time a few weeks ago and didn't like it at all. Im usually not a fan of surnames for names and names that end in 'ley' but I find this one growing on me. I can't put my finger on what I like about it, almost feels like a guilty pleasure! I fear I might one day regret this choice if I add it to the short-list.

I listed 3 Huxleys in my reply but didn't realize they were all related until I just looked it up :P Apparently the two younger ones are grandsons of TH.

Haven't read him yet. I like Aldous's style tho. I read Doors of Perception a long time ago and I want to read Psychedelics, also was assigned Brave New World in school but didn't read much of it.

I never have heard it as a fn, with or without Hux as a nn. If I did, I think I'd think "I prefer Darwin, but not enough to use."

I like Aldous Huxley as well but tbh, the name now - sadly - mainly reminds me of poor Huxley Stauffer. I never followed that family but that story made all the way to me in Denmark. That’s how huge it was and it still breaks my heart to think of that poor boy.
All that said, I don’t find the name pleasing at all. I don’t care for the spelling or the sound. “Xley” is not pretty to me and I don’t like the concept of lastnames as firstnames.
But I kind of feel like adding that Aldous has a lot of charm.

It sounds like the name of a basset hound.

I know a little Huxley who is 3. I don't think it's a bad name (I generally like surnames on boys) but the problem I have with it is that a class list in a few years will look somewhat like this:
Huxley
Khinley
Wesley
Tinley
Harley
Finley
Kingsley
Bentley
Marley
Tenley
Oakley
Loxley
Brantley
Kingley
Tinsley

I know a 9 year old Huxley. I don’t like the name, at all.

I think it's awful and a typical "we are so cool and our kid will get the coolest name ever" kind of name that parents choose who want to be hipsters but who don't realize that many other people already had the same idea. Also it will forever be associated with the huge Myka Stauffer (is that her name?) scandal that I know about even though I don't follow her. It was huge. The name sounds harsh and ugly and Hux reminds me of someone having the hiccups. Sorry! I like many surname names but not this one.

Yes this is my fear! I think you are right, like it's trying too hard. The combo of the 'x'and the 'ley'. I had no idea about Myka Stauffer so had to google it and what an awful situation, that poor boy I hope he is now receiving all the love that he deserves.

Huxley feels like such a MAN! name, in that I can see it on strong men that work out, drive Land rovers, and work on construction sites.

I see it as very manly too. The funny thing is that description is 100 percent my husband!

The Huck/Hux/Ux sound is really unattractive to me. Huxley sounds like a name for a dog or cat.
