Help[Opinions] Farran
The first time I heard the name Farran (I think it was in a book - I'm having difficulty remembering), I thought it was an Irish name, given its similarity to names like Ciaran, Finbarr, etc. However, I'd looked it up on this site to find it in the database, and listed as an English name (via Norman French). I added it to my PNL, but it was still largely a "back-burner" name for years.
Now, I've started thinking about it. Thinking I'd like to meet a Farran in real life. But when I looked on my PNL, it wasn't there! I thought that was very strange, because I knew I'd added it. So I searched on BtN... and saw that it was actually deleted from the main database for being too rare a given name. There was even a post on the Name Facts board about it, along with some other names that were removed: https://www.behindthename.com/bb/fact/5215380
Farran is now part of the Submitted Names database, so I went ahead and added that version back to my PNL - the main list.

I like it! I do slightly prefer Ferran (which is an unrelated name, but the spellings are so similar I can't help but think of one when I'm thinking of the other), but Farran is cool too. I feel like it's distinctive without being "weird," and it fits in nicely with the whole "two syllable boy names ending in -n" trends (Logan, Dylan, Nathan, Ethan, Aaron, etc).

About "Ferran"
It might not actually be unrelated. The surname Farran is said to be derived from Old French ferrant, meaning "iron grey" (Latin for iron is ferrum).
Edit: I didn't realize Ferran was a separate Catalan name derived from Ferdinand (just looked it up). It genuinely looks like it shares the same Latin root as Farran.

I like it! It reminds me of names like Ronan and Arren, and also like Faramir but without ties to a specific character.
