[Surname] Katka - Finnish Lapp surname?
My maternal great grandfather was Finnish, but immigrated to the US at the turn of the century. My grandfather was ARVO KATKA. I am trying to find where my ancestors were from in Finland, but have had no luck. I would love to know if there are any Finns who have heard this surname. I have a feeling they may have been Lapps, but have no way to prove it. I hope someone can help. Thank you.

The name is Kätkä and you'll find its etymology at tinyurl.com/y4aj65k4. There's a place called Kätkä Fell in Lapland as you can see at tinyurl.com/yyuujcx8.
This is absolutely fantastic. Having the dots over the ä actually brings up search results for the first time! I cannot thank you enough. I feel like I have a lot more to build off of now.
Now if I can find some more relatives!
Thank you thank you!!!

Hi - my last name is Katka and I've always been curious of the same thing, having been told I'm also of Finnish decent. I registered just to message you, but I can't private message anyone for 6 days. PM me, I'd like to exchange emails and figure out how we may be related. I've always known there were more Katka's out there, but we've been spread out all over and haven't connected yet.
Hahahahahaha
Why
I believe Katka is actually Kätkä. Many Finnish last names have two dots over a's and o's, but outside Finland they are usually dropped. So with that in mind, Kätkä is a Finnish last name and also a place name. I hope this helped a little!
Thank you so much! My family was not sure about where my grandparents came from, but I have always suspected northern Finland.
I really appreciate your input. I get a little closer everyday. Unfortunately, I have no family left from the older generations, so I’m doing my own investigative work... with the help of friendly strangers like you.
