What are your thoughts on Orla?
The name kind of fascinates me, it has such a delicate meaning but the name itself feels strong.
Would you go with Orla or do you prefer the more authentic Orfhlaith or Orlaith or Orlagh?

Orla is a male name in Denmark and I have always found it particularly unappealing. It just doesn’t sound good. Also it’s super dated and seems to be dying out. For a reason, if you ask me. While I’m sure nice men are/have been called Orla, it just doesn’t sound like a nice person to me.
I can’t see it on a girl. That would be ridiculous in a Danish context.
Bonus info: Amos Slade from Disney’s The Fox and the Hound is called Orla in the Danish dub.

Ive been thinkig about this name a lot, I think it's lovely. The 'oral' thing did pop into my head which is unfortunate.

It's never popped out at me, so I've never really thought about it.
But now that you mention it, it's awesome.
Orla seems simplest for English speakers.
Órfhlaith seems most traditional/proper/formal.
Órlaith looks like the most used/modern/Irish.
But I like the look of Orlagh most.

This name is weird to me because my name is Laura, but I was nicknamed Orla because it is how my younger sister said my name when she was little. I had no idea it was a real name until I got older and became a name nerd I am today. It is hard for me to imagine it on a real person, but I know that it is popular in the UK.

Not the worse I ever heard. But I think I prefer Ona. I love the meaning however.

Hahaha I know! I really don't understand how you can look at Orla and go "Oh, oral sex", but I guess some people are creative.

I mean it’s right in the name lmao. At first I didn’t notice it but once you let it sink into your head you start to notice. I think it’s the “or” sound and then switching the ‘a’ with the ‘l’

Yes, I know that it is an anagram but the sound and look are still completely different.

Hahaha even though I have to admit...a while ago Alani was my favorite (I love the meaning "orange tree") and when I told my sister about it it accidentally came out as Anali and I didn't even notice it, only when my sister was starting to laugh. But I think that's because it's a bit of a tongue twister. Anyway, it was off my list after that ;) I still like it on someone else, though.

I used to love Annalee but family guy came out with an episode making fun of the name sounding like Anally so now I can't like it anymore haha. Leave it to a tv show to ruin something
