[Opinions] Sorrel
Replies
It makes me think of the shoe company Sorel.
I think pronunciation seems ambiguous. One option sounds vaguely like Karl or Coral, the other sounds like Laurel. Both seem close to sorrow and sore.
Stylewise, it's kind of like Yarrow.
Plain, earthy, a little ragged.

I'm surpised no one mentioned that it's a horse coat color. That's the first thing I think of.
Then I think of wild low-growing plants - the three-leaved clover-looking species that grow in forests (Oxalis).
It's basically like Clover, Bay, or Canyon - has a very rustic or "country"/outdoorsy image for me, and seems deliberately evocative.
So, kind of characterish and not really my style. But it's not bad really.
Seems like a gal name to me, but could be either.

It's an interesting name. But I wouldn't use it.
Reminds me of the protagonist from a book called Bloom.
Not really my type of genre at all, but it was fascinating to say the least.

It would be great on a romance novel hero who is sulky and sullen but underneath it all has a big heart and helps save the ranch. I don't see it as feminine at all, it's very silver-screen cowboy to me. Makes me think of words like saddle and pommel and griddle and lasso.
I hate the meaning!

It’s different and I like the meaning and botanical association but wouldn’t chose it personally as it sounds too much like “sorry”.
Where I live, sorrel has cheerful yellow flowers and juicy stalks that taste refreshingly sour. But the 'sour' association doesn't please me for a human name.
I love the sound. It reminds me of french surname: Sorel.
Reminds me of the character Sorrel Forbes from the book 'Theater Shoes' by Noel Streatfield. I like the name, although I seem to prefer it as a middle name.
I know it's a botanical name, bbut it's not one that works very well. It just doesn't sound namelike, and it's a mumble.
In terms of the nature names I like this one, it isn't my favorite by any stretch but if I came across it IRL I would still be very intereged.
It sounds like squirrel and reminds me of Laurel. I don't like it.
