[Opinions] Re: Arya

The way they pronounced Arya on GoT was incredibly inconsistant. According to GRRM, it’s supposed to be AHR-ya. Two hard sounds. Not like Aria which is soft and flowing.
I tend to pronounce Arya AHR-ya for the same reason. Aya is similar sounding but not identical. With Aya, the sounds flow more together. It’s a much softer sound.
I wouldn’t worry that some people might mix them up. Some might but you risk that with loads of names and it’s quick and easy to clear the confusion. You could also argue that Aya as a name has a much longer history than Arya.
I associate Aya with a character from Green Lantern The Animated series. And she was a great character. I enjoyed her MUCH more than I liked Arya Stark.
I prefer Aya.
