[Opinions] Re: Astoria
ehhhh.
I kinda like the sound of it.
And I'm not even bothered about the "ass story" thing because I can't hear that. It sounds like "a-STORE-ee-a" to me. I'm not stressing the first syllable, like in Astor or Aspen - the "ass" in those does bother me. But... Astor is very American-money, to me. And Astoria is just a version of Astor.
I'm afraid that ruins Astoria for me.It's not totally un-usable, if you assume widespread ignorance of the association, and I think you can. I'm sure there are a lot of names that I like, that have associations I wouldn't like, if I knew a bit more about them. I just happen to have these associations with Astor / Astoria. So, my opinion is a data point for you ... I'm not condemning. If I met an Astoria, I'd just sort of sigh to myself and try to enjoy it, and assume that the namers didn't look into it.
Well ... it still sounds a little pretentious and I hate "Story" as a name ... so I probably would not enjoy it very much, but whatever.- mirfak
