[Opinions] Patience
Again a character from one of my favourite tv series. The programme was first set in the 1950s and after 10 years we’re now in the 1960sPatience (Patsy) Mount played by actress Emerald Lily Fennel.I like the name Patience but I think more as a middle name. I really like Emerald though.

Like you, I prefer Patience as a middle name. Virtue names can be a bit tricky. With patience, the endurance to get through trouble, suffering, and delays withut getting angry is commendable, but it also refers to someone who who is going through a lot of terrible circumstances. To always have to be patient is a bit sad even if it speaks well of character.

Wow, I don't hear it as implying terrible circumstances. Patience is a daily, mundane thing, like just the act of listening is usually showing patience.

I don't think it is universal to instantly think of Patience as someone calmly enduring hardship. As you say, someone can be patient in all kinds of circumstances. A longsuffering woman (possibly living during the late 1600s) who had gone through hell and high water is just the mental image that I have. There is some suggestion of bearing with something unpleasant in the word "patient," so I kind of know why I automatically think of hardship.
1: bearing pains or trials calmly or without complaint
2: manifesting forbearance under provocation or strain
3: not hasty or impetuous
4: steadfast despite opposition, difficulty, or adversityI would be happy to meet a young, cheerful Patience. That would probably alter my impression of the name.

I've met an American Gen Zer named Patience. I didn't think it worked before then, but now I like it. There's also a British poet named Patience Agbabi. It seems kind of like Prudence to me but less severe, more towards Hope on the spectrum of virtue names. Or the vibe is between Constance and Paige.I don't like Patsy.Emerald is pretty.

Patsy is an adorable nickname for Patience! I've always associated it with Patricia, which I'm also starting to warm up to. But Patience may be even better. Less expected, but it absolutely works. Patience comes across as a little somber. And Patsy lightens it right up.

I love call the Midwife! I do like Patsy as a NN for Patience over Patricia tbh, Patricia still feels elderly to me. I love Patience but it feels very "Puritan Era" in nature and of the virtue names this one in particular I would be inclined to assume her parents are "hyper religious" in their household. Fun Fact: there is a real life little girl in my town named Temperance! For this one I mostly imagine a recovering alcoholic choosing it but maybe that speaks more to me than the parents. I do prefer Patience over Temperance. The unusual virtue names in general are always a fun lot to explore.
