[Opinions] Esmeralda
Esmeralda means "emerald". What do you guys think of the name? Do you like the character from the Hunch Back of Norte-Dame?Rate my PNL or I will boil your teeth.

My sarcasm has come to the point where I don't even know if I'm joking or not.

Emeralds are beautiful and I’d wish I could love this name but I find it so clunky and unappealing.

This name is very "too much" and I love it for that. I don't mind the Hunchback character.

I think it's cool in theory but I don't have the guts to use it.

I strongly dislike it. All I can think of is the Disney movie. Emerald and Emeraude are gorgeous. Esmeralda doesn't even come close.

It feels overtly dramatic and tawdry. Aside from the Hunchback character, it sounds like a place name, a ship referred to exclusively as "she", some obscure plant species, or a character in a cheesy Brazilian telenovela. One positive association is the character Granny Weatherwax in the Discworld novels. The character in Hugo's novel was a very naïve 15-year-old whom three adult men lusted over, who died tragically and young, and who was revealed to actually have been white after all. So I'm kind of lukewarm about her, despite "The Hunchback" being one of my very favourite novels.

I thought Esmeralda in Disney's Hunchback of Notre Dame was so cool when I was a little girl. (She, Megara, and Jasmine were my favorites then.) I understand the original novel is vastly different from the movie, of course, but that is my main association. As a name I think it's quite lovely, though I'm far more likely to use the somewhat similar Esmée.

I love it! It's honestly a shame they pulled her from the Disney Princess lineup as they definitely still need to beef it up in terms of diversity. It has a magical air to it when you say the name and the NN Esme is completely darling.

Esmeralda is quite a nice name, I like it and the meaning is sweet. Particularly nice choice for a baby girl born in May, as Emerald is the birthstone for May. I do prefer just Esme though.

I like it. I think it's pretty and deserves more attention. I'm not at all familiar with the character - have never read the book (and I don't follow Disney stuff).
