Help[Opinions] Amana and Amara
I think both of these very similar sounding names are quite lovely. Amana means trust, permanent, a confirmation. Those are the different meanings I found through research and it’s a Biblical place name mentioned in Song of Solomon. Amara means grace.
I pronounce Amana as uh-MAH-nuh and Amara as uh-MAR-uh.
What do you think of each name, how would you pronounce them and which do you prefer? Thanks.

Amara is pretty, though I've heard it pronounced A-MARE-a as well, so the ambiguity is a turn-off.
Amana is a brand of kitchen appliances in the US; fridges and stoves and such. Probably named Amana because of the meaning of trust? Don't like it anyhow, it just looks like Amanda with a bite taken out of it.

The kitchen appliances thing wouldn’t be an issue, since I’m in Australia. And the pronunciation you mentioned for Amara would be more of an American thing, because of the accent.

I second all this. I immediately thought of the Amana refrigerator my grandparents had.

Amana reminds me too much of "a man".
Amara is nice in theory, much better than Mara. But in many languages amaro/amara means "bitter" (Italian, for example) and I hate that.

What I dislike about both names is that they sound like lots of other popular names. They do not stand out and will constantly get confused. Amara, Amana, Amalia, Alaia, Amelia, Amira, Aaliyah, Arina, Alina, Amina, Mara, Amanda, Amandla etc. etc.
I used to love Amara but started to like it less and less because of that and because of the "bitter" thing. It just sounds like so many other names.

I still want to pronounce Amana as uh-MAN-uh, even though I know mana is pronounced mah-nah. This may be a problem for others as well? Amana doesn't appeal to me though because it just looks like "a man a". Man is too obvious in it to make it attractive for a girls name. I'd give it 2/10.
I pronounce Amara as you do. I find it the better option of the two. It has a strong beauty to it. I'd give it 7/10. It fits nicely with Eden :)

That’s my concern with Amana, that people would pronounce it as uh-MAN-uh. I like the Biblical connection to this name though and the fact that it’s the name of a mountain in Lebanon, as my DH is Lebanese. Here in Australia though, I do think uh-MAN-uh may be inevitable :(
Amara is lovely and it does sound very nice with Eden. I forgot about the Miss Amara rug store! I like their stuff actually.
ETA: Do you think people in Australia might pronounce Amara as AM-uh-ruh? Or even A-Mara?

Maybe you could use Amana in the middle name spot? Posy Amana? ;)
I think uh-MAR-uh is the most intuitive pronunciation of Amara to most Aussies with English as their first language. I don’t think you’d get many saying uh-MARE-uh like some Americans would (like RoxStar mentioned). I don’t think the other two pronunciations you mentioned would be too common either. Overall I think Amara is a safer bet pronunciation wise over Amana.
