[Opinions] Cher
What are your thoughts on the name Cher? What would you think if you met one?

I think of Cher Lloyd, my guilty pleasure singers, and of course, the legendary namesake Cher herself. I feel like if I met a Cher, I would assumed that her mom named her after the singer, but it would be fun to meet one.

I think it's cute, I'd like to see more people use it. I was a bit disappointed to learn that Cher the singer's full name was actually Cheryl (which I also love, but still). I think it works as a standalone just fine.

Um, Hello? Cher from Clueless! The name is decent at most but I prefer Cherry if not Cheryl. Definitely a one-person name.

I like it as a nickname for Cherry, Cheryl, Cherie, Cherilyn, Charity and even Charlotte, but I don't like it as a standalone name, that'd be like naming your kid Rihanna or Shakira.Nonetheless, I have to say I like its sound - it's charming.

I'd think it was cute. A little bit of Americana. It wouldn't have seemed that weird to give it when, not only was Cher the singer popular, but tons of people were named Cheryl and Sherry and Sharon already.I don't like Cher as a full name - too much celeb image - but I do kinda like Cheryl, and Cherilyn. Sherry is one of my favorites.

It’s okay as a nickname for Cheryl or Sherrie but as a given name it’s a bit over the top. It’s one of those names that is far to associated with the original. I love the singer Cher but would not name a child Cher.

I would think it is a nickname for Cheryl or Cherry.

A one-owner name, and I'm unlikely to meet that owner.

I think this is pretty much a one-off name, and that if somebody gives it as a full name, it looks kind of pathetic, like going around dressed up and mimicking the mannerisms of some character or celebrity. It's not that uncommon for someone named Sharon or Cheryl to end up being called Cher/sher/Share for short by friends and family, but that doesn't bother me because it feels natural and not self-conscious.
