I work at an ice cream place, and this Saturday a little girl named Aletheia came with her family to get ice cream. One of my co-workers was friends with the family, so I asked the dad how the name was spelled. It's pronounced ah-LAY-thee-a (though some online sources say it's pronounced Ah-LEE-thee-a). He told me that in the bible, in the verse that says "I am the way, the truth and the life", the word for truth is Aletheia in the Greek translation.
I looked it up and it also seems to be some sort of ancient Greek figure... Also associated with "unclosedness", "unconcealedness", "disclosure" or "truth"
I've been pretty obsessed with it the last couple days. WDYT?

I really like this name. I've always pronounced it uh-LEE-thee-a though and I think I prefer the spelling Alethea. Thea is such a sweet nickname.
It also makes me think of the alethiometer (truth-measure) in His Dark Materials by Philip Pullman, which I think is a nice connection.

I think it’s basically “truth “ in Ancient Greek. It’s fine but a little overwrought.

I really like it. I love the meaning of truth. I pronounce it al-a-THAY-a, which apparently isn't an option. I also like the a-LEE-thee-a pronunciation. Theia ("thay-a") is a cool nickname, meaning goddess.

I've never met an Aletheia but encountered it for the first time a couple years ago in the Assassin's Creed video game series. She appears in first in Odyssey, playing a pretty big role, and returns in the most recent game, Valhalla. She's an Isu, which in the game are the people who existed prior to humans and are said to have created humans. They're the people of Atlantis.
Anyway, it's gotten me used to hearing the name and even though the character is of questionable morality, the name itself is rather pretty. I like it. The game says it as ah-lee-thee-ah and that's how I prefer it.

I've always heard it pronounced a-luh-THEE-uh, with the -thee- having the sound of th in Think, not Those. And, yes, it is ancient Greek for truth. I quite like it, but I prefer the similar but unrelated Anthea.

Aletheia looks too whimsical and confusing. I would spell it Aletta, since it looks basic but still chic.

I like it - and I like Aretha too... except I always think of that one joke in Red Dwarf where they need to preform an operation on Jesus to remove his kidney stones. Lister mistaken "urethra" for Aretha Franklin. Aletheia reminded me of the exact same joke.
