I'm South African; we speak British English and for a long time the UK was our main source of 'culture', however defined, because the country only got TV in the early 1970s. The apartheid government tried to keep foreign influences out, especially ones that might show - shock! horror! - black and white people socialising on equal terms. And satellite or cable TV only started happening in, I think, the 1990s, so yeah, formative years ... now it's edge-to-edge Disney, music videos and also, thank goodness, National Geographic, NatGeoWild and CNN.Glad you like the list. A lot are honouring.
