[Opinions] Evening
I know I've asked about it before, but I feel the need to ask again. What do you think of Evening, as a first name, for a girl? I'd likely call her Evey.See, the number of times I see Eve- and Eva- names pop up here and elsewhere is worrying enough that it makes me want to forget about my beloved Eva. But I can't quite do that--I love the nn Evey too much. And while I first saw Evening simply as a way of getting at Evey without falling into the top-100 trap (lol), it has really, really grown on me lately. The image I get when I hear the name is gorgeous--a summer evening on the front porch, with lemonade and ginger snaps and some good visiting getting done. ;) In any case, I'm really starting to like it a lot.Am I falling into another trend (random word names, though it wouldn't really be random in this case) in my attempts to side-step another? Would Evening be viable on a person, or would it make you cringe? And do you have opinions on these combos? (I've left off the obvious Evening Rae because I'm a bit worried it sounds too much like a description--though that doesn't bother me personally.)Evening Cornelia
Evening Roberta
Evening Hazel
Evening Rebecca
Evening Teresa
Evening Clarisse
Evening Lisette
Evening Janis
Evening Bernadette
Evening VeronicaArray (who also really adores Morning--twins? ;)

She had fallen against the windows, which were pressed against the windows, which were pressed against the old oak near across the age of the old Aunt Sophronia--was almost dreadful enough to walk on. A revolution without dancing is a revolution not worth having.

In all honesty, I think it's quite cute. And I LOVE Evey as the nickname. It would make me cringe on the outside...but I'd be happy on some secret interior level. ;)Evening Rebecca is stunning! I also like Evening Hazel a lot.Evening and Morning would be atrocious for twins. Sorry.

I'm sorry, but it's bordering on the ridiculous, imo.Have a nice evening! :-D*****

I think I once posted about this as I dislike it, but now that I think about, I like it more and more. Evey is a nice nickname. I like Evening Cornelia, Evening Rebecca, Evening Clarisse, and Evening Teresa from your list. It's one of the few word names that I like (sorry, Thursday, Juniper, they just don't cut it for me as a regular name). Some other ideas:Evening Rose
Evening Maria
Evening Katherine (etc.)
Evening Ruth (previously suggested)
Evening Sunniva
    Hope I've helped!

Does Evening Maria strike you as a bit close to "Ave Maria"? That's the first thing that popped into my head, and it's not something that bothers me (makes me feel less heathen in using the name, lol), but I'm wondering if I'm the only one who'd make the connection there.Oooh--speaking of avoiding hellfires for naming a daughter Evening ;), what of Evening Veronica? Veronica is my Confirmation name and a saint I've admired since I was in elementary school and first became interested in the saints. And her nickname would be even more obvious--look at the initials! :D Evening Lucia? Evening Perpetua? Evening Cecilia? ...None quite match up to Evening Veronica, lol.Array (also likes Evening Sunniva but has been lead off-track by her own conjectures, lol)

Yes to Evening Veronica! As far as word names go, Evening is positively gorgeous (although I'd never use it ;-)), and I adore Veronica. It being your Confirmation name only makes it all the more cooler.

Y'know, actually I really like the whole Evening & Morning twins thingI do like the idea of Evening, especially nn Evey. Why is it any different than Sky or River? I really groove on word names, I do.I may not have an objective, trustworthy opinion, however. My idea of cool names for twinnies, for example (playing on your idea of Evening and Morning) runs to the likes of themes, thusly:(B/B)
Fletcher and Archer
Lancelot and D'Artagnan
Dashing and Hawking
Redmond and Greyson(G/G)
Grace and Mercy
Liberty and Verity
Patience and Peace
Lyric and Harmony(G/B)
Sahara and Mojave
Rhiannon and Riordan
Scarlett and Indigo
Sophia and SabioYou be the judge. But Evening (and Morning!) gets the big thumbs UP from me!~Lillian~

If names like Summer and Meadow and Dawn are used why shouldn't Evening? Of your combos I like Evening Rae, Evening Hazel, Evening Teresa and Evening Lisette. ~Arie~

It's nms, but not bad for someone else's kid.I like raindancing's suggestion of Evening Ruth.
And I'm not sure I want to admit it, but I also like BetsyLou's suggestion of Evening Melody! My brain tells me not to saddle a kid with that much of a word name, but the combo just sounds good. For some reason, I like one-syllable mn's with Evening:
Evening Rose
Evening Grace
Evening Ruth
Evening AnneP.S. Please don't use Evening and Morning for twins!

I don't like word names by default [there are some exceptions]. And this one I think is pretty bad. Sorry! Even though it seems like I am the only one! :-p Same goes for Morning, Tuesday, Wednesday, etc. Names that we use in our daily dialouge just shouldn't be used as names IMO. * pronounced EH-vah =)

It's all right. :) We'll just have to agree to disagree--I'm a total sucker for word names and would have no qualms about having daughters named Evening, Thursday, and Juniper! Array (loves a dissenting opinion)

My problem with word names is this, they can sound a little ridiculous in certain circumstances
"Good Morning,Evening"
Still I like the sound of the word Evening, and with the nickname Evey to fall back on its not too bad
Morning is too like the word Mourning for my liking, I once met a man called Dusk and one of my freinds swore she had a cousin called either Jennifer or Julia TwilightPersonally I think Evening needs a fairly short middle name I think someone suggested Evening Ruth that sounds good
My Mum wanted to call my sisters Dawn Marie and Eve Claire but was persauded against it by my Nan

I like Evening. What about Evania which could be pronounced Ev-uh-nya? I think Evania is beautiful to look at and beautiful sounding and would give you Evey as a nickname.

Evania isn't quite my taste, I'm afraid, but it's nice. Thank you for the suggestion!Array

I actually think it's quite nice. I don't usually go for wordish names, but you are right about the calming, lovely image it conjures. The name itself makes me think of a writer or an anthropology professor--I'm not sure why! Evey is very sweet as a nn and I love the combos of Evening Teresa and Evening Rebecca . Other options perhaps: Evening Ruth
Evening Lydia
Evening Coral
Evening Gloria (I like the play on morning glory here)
Evening Delilah
Evening Melody (if we're going wordy, might as well go all the way!)
Evening Anya ----Betsy-----

Oooh--I really rather like Evening Ruth! And I thought of Evening Gloria, too, but I thought that might be a bit much. I do really like it, though. :DThank you so much!Array

I think Evening makes a very, very pretty name, and I'm always liked the idea of common nicknames for unusual proper names. I especially like Evening Rebecca and Evening Clarisse (though I prefer Clarice).Morning makes me think first of greif, then of the beginning of the day... Evening and Dawn? :) -- Sarah

But Evening and Dawn aren't nearly so twinny as Evening and Morning, which takes some of the fun out of it. ;) And then I couldn't call them Evey and Morna, le sigh.Twins don't run in my family anyway, so y'all don't need to worry about me unleashing that horror on the world. (We won't even go into the pact my sister and I made, promising that if either of us ever had b/g twins, they'd be Luke and Leia.)Array

I LOVE the name MorningNoah, 4 - "Dad, I love a fun guy!"
Dan - "Oh really? Pumpkin, I'm so glad you think i'm a fun guy!"
Noah, 4 - "No! Dad! I like fungi! you know mushrooms!".

"Luke and Leia" is really awful, ha ha...Twins don't run in my family, either, but I, too, have fun thinking up corny pairs. If I ever had boy/girl twins, they'd be August and May. Girl/girl, May and April. Hee hee hee-- Sarah
