[Opinions] Augusta vs. Philippa
Which would you choose and why?
What would you use as a middle name?

Augusta
Austere and amazing. Augusta Winifred comes to mind first, but it's too clunky. Augusta needs something light. Augusta... Lydia? Augusta Julie? No, scratch that last one. There's always Augusta Jane to fall back on. Maybe... Augusta Lennox? Augusta Cleo?

I love August too much for a boy to ever consider using Augusta, it would just never live up to August. I like Philippa but really dislike Philip, so I suppose I would choose Philippa. Philippa Gwendolen.

Neither, because the NNs sound ridiculous in my language, but if I must, I'd choose Philippa and use Lipa as a NN.
I wish it were Avgusta instead of Augusta, just one letter and I can get Ava as a NN.
What would you use as a middle name?
Philippa Colette
Philippa Elise
Philippa Elodie
Philippa Emilia
Philippa Margo
Philippa Rosemary
Philippa Ruby
:)

I love both, but would pick Augusta because it’s less common and the spelling is almost universal. I’ll come back for the mns.
Philippa is a common name in the UK, it wouldn't raise an eyebrow. Augusta would, it's heavy and sounds uncomfortable. I would hate to be called Gus or Gussie.
The Philippa's I know IRL are:
Philippa Zoe
Philippa Jane
Philippa Jasmin
Philippa Louise
Philippa Freya
Philippa Marie
I would go for:
Philippa Mary
Philippa Robin
Philippa Judith
Philippa Rosemary
Philippa Ruby
Philippa Miranda

I would use Philippa readily IRL, and Augusta never. Philippa would honour a friend and has more, and better, nn potential than Augusta, which can't really turn into anything other than Gus or Gussie.
Philippa Margaret is my friend; mn is honouring. Otherwise:
Philippa Lucy
Philippa Joan
Philippa Tess
Philippa Marianne

There’re many nns around the world. Auggie, Gusta (GOOS-ta), Gustina (goos-TEE-na), Guta (GOO-ta), Gutinha (goo-CHEEN-ia), Guga (GOO-ga), Gugu (goo-GOO), Gu (Goo), Agus(A-goos or a-GOOS), etc.
I like the idea of Goose. Lol
Don't really like either, maybe Phillipa

I like them both more in theory than practice, but I actually like Augusta A LOT, and Philippa only a little.
Like I REALLY like Augusta in theory. In practice, the "Au" seems like it should be more important. I really pronounce it (schwa)-gusta. Which I guess is really not bad if you don't mind Gustie or Gussie, which I don't. Philippa never gets comfortable IMO.
Augusta Rena is a good combo, honoring for me...
Augusta Jane is nice, I really like Jane in the middle even if it is a bit filler, it's like super comfortable overalls with great pockets
I find it a bit awkward to combine. I might just grab for two austere Roman names in a row like Augusta Julia or something. If it can't be a nice combo, then let it be striking and dignified.
I have a character named Augusta and I think her middle name is Grace. Augusta Grace - that's sort of funny isn't it?
