Thoughts on Maisie?

Is it too cutesy to stand alone?

Any ideas why it is getting popular in the UK again? It peaked in 2010 (because of "Game of Thrones", I guess) and then fell quickly but now it's on the rise again.

Do you prefer Maisie or May, Mae?

I love Maisie / Maisy, it’s such a pretty name. I don’t find it too cutesy to stand alone at all, but then I love a lot of these style of nicknames as full names names. Not sure why it went up in popularity, fell and is rising again, hard to say. I love the name Mae too and May is also sweet, but I prefer Maisie / Maisy. I go back and forth on which spelling I prefer there.

It's a little bit cutesy imo but not in the unusable kind of way. I can still imagine a doctor or a lawyer named Maisie, like a feisty kind of gal that strives to work in the trenches and serve her local community. Cutesy names seem to just be in at the moment. I prefer Mae myself of those 3, but I tend to like all of them as NNs for Margaret's, Margarettas etc. But they all have the legs to be stand alone names as well.

It’s very cute, though I’d never personally use it. I think it could stand on its own just fine. I know I’m the outlier here but I also like Maizie / Mazie / Maizy

Maybe because of the actress/singer Maisie Smith.

Maisie is cute, but not something I would use.

I think Maizie is cute. I would never use it on its own, though. I don't think it ages well.

May is nice, but for some reason I can't make myself like it more than I do. It's okay.

My first thought is Maisie of Morningside who is a little kitten who wears woolly jumpers and kilts. The Maisie books were written by Aileen Paterson I think in the 1980s, 90s and early 2000s.

I don’t think it’s too cutesy but I wouldn’t use it myself as I can never shake the image of the kitten in the kilt.

It's short for Mairead if you'd prefer a full that's less cutesie and then use Maisie as a nickname ?

Alternatively you could use Margaret or Margo etc

I like Maisie and May. I think lots of UK names have the cutesy endings eg ie y I Sadie Elsie Archie Alfie Bonnie Ollie
