[Opinions] Re: How boring is Isabella nn Bella?
in reply to a message by Perrine
I find Isabella over-ornate and not authentic. Take a Spanish name, and add a Latin ending - why? And Bella is so very canine.
I like the straight-up-and-down Isabel, and the slightly whackier Isobel very much. Isabelle is fine in France or with the French pronunciation, which one never gets in Anglophone settings. Like most other English-speaking people probably, I've got 19th century Isabella/Bella people in my family tree, and usually I enjoy family names, but I make an exception for both Isabella and Bella.
When I was a student, I knew two Drama students who were best friends and inseparable; both named Isabella, they were known respectively and for convenience as Bella and Iz. They even looked alike! That did nothing to warm me up to the name or the nns.
