[Opinions] Melissa
I recently listened to a podcast about the Melissae (it's called A Temple Wild if you're curious), who were ancient Greek honeybee nymphs and were associated with various goddesses, divine inspiration and prophecy. Now I'm annoyed because I'm really starting to like the name Melissa now that I know the meaning behind it, especially since I love honeybees. It looks like it's joining Laura and Sarah in the group of names that I'd love if they weren't so dreadfully common. What are your opinions on it?

I've never thought that being common was by itself a reason to not like a name, as opposed to not use it.
I've always liked the name Melissa and wouldn't have minded being named it, as long as nobody ever thought to call me Missy or Mel.

I love it! It's not on my top 10 feminine names but I'd use it with no hesitation. It has a pretty sound, and it's beautiful on paper, too.

I adore the meaning, but dislike the sound. How can Deborah and Melissa have such cool meanings yet sound so drab?

They sound very different, though! Melissa simpers; Deborah looks you straight in the eye; though Debbie doesn't - she giggles, even aged 60-something.
