[Opinions] Re: Nameberry's top names of 2021
in reply to a message by ari.
Soren - this was popular in Germany in the 70s as Sören. I find it dated. But I guess it could catch on? I just don't really see anything interesting about it.
Aurelia - yes, definitely. It is Aurora's uncommon sister. I also believe that Aura will rise. But because Aurora is already quite common I don't think they will make it very far. Maybe lower top 100, but probably not even that. Aurelia sounds way better in English than Aurora.
Cassius - don't really see it. Harsh and makes me think of Cassandra which is a bit 90s.
Daphne - yes, but the DAF sound will turn some people off. It has Phoebe-potential (top 200 or so) but not Zoe or Chloe potential.
River - yes, I sort of expect this in the top 10. It is also possible that once people realize how it is no longer unique at all they will back off because I feel that it is often chosen by people who want something a bit different. So maybe it will go the same way as Ruby which also went up but is now sort of just hanging around. But I still think it has top 10 and even top 5 and #1 potential.
Adelaide - hmmm no, people will choose Ada instead. Adeline is on its way out already.
Cyrus - no way. Miley and Billy Ray.
Mabel - yeah. I have been waiting for this to get common since I was a teenager and it is still odd to me why it is taking so long (same with Ada). This is a name that should have been common 10 years ago already.
Ambrose - no, it may be rising quickly now but it will stop rising at some point. It is too girly. I know people here disagree, but I will always hear a mumbled "Amber Rose". Also it weirdly reminds me of long haired, shirtless lovers on the covers of the sex uhm "romance" novels you can buy at gas stations.
Adeline - no this had its 5 minutes already.
Emrys - no, too out there and girly looking. Unless this is a girls name then maybe. But is is masculine I think. I will look it up later.
Flora - yeah this will rise but I am not a fan. I despise Florence.
Simon - maybe. I dislike it and find it bland.
Calliope - yeah, for sure. The ones that stand out to me (as in: I don't think they will become popular and it is odd to see them on the list):Caspian - I like it a lot and it has potential but it just doesn't seem to catch on at all in general.
Cordelia - again lots of potential. But many people know of it through Shakespeare and it was on "Buffy" but people just don't seem to want to use it.
Elliot - I love Elliott and Elliot but I think because of the female TV show character people are hesitant to use it for boys but the show has gone out of fashion so people don't care for it for girls anymore either (luckily).
Kamakanaalohamaikalani - I think people are just intrigued by its length.
Lyra - I love it but this name has been around since the 90s (since the book series was released). It is going to catch on a little but I don't see it in the top 100.
Lilith - Lily is falling out of favor (not for me, it is still my favorite). And Lilith is too gothic. Bad story too. When you google it lots of sex related stuff comes up. Don't see it.
Elio - I think the rumors about dear Armie being a cannibal will want to make people avoid "Call Me By Your Name" related thing even though the movie was good.
Cosmo - this makes me laugh everytime I hear it, it has the most ridiculous sound. Maybe it's just me.
Lola - has been around for ages, used by lots of celebs but no one seems to want to use it. Too close to Lolita and too sexual.
Archie - I think for most Americans this would be too cutesy. Please rate my list: https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/6232
