Maggie, as a nickname for Margaret, is definitely dated.
Marguerite is a nicer option, but yes, Marguerite people would be called Margaret, unless Maggie predominates.
I also like Magdalena "Maggie", but my favourite nickname for Magdalena is Lena, although Magda and Maggie aren't bad options.
What about Margot nn Maggie? It's cute, not old and no-nonsense.

I second this, Margot nn Maggie is perfect, its short sweet easily pronounced and spelled and ages well :)
