Those are my associations. It's a nature name potentially, too, but we say 'creeks' where I live instead, and I wouldn't love that as a name either. It sounds like a verb or a plural noun, both of which would be unusual for a word name.
I'm ambivalent about it; I feel like it's awkward but could be a little endearing. Of Br* surnames, I slightly prefer Bridger.
