Help[Opinions] Circe and Perpetua
Circe I would pronuce kir-KEE which I think is the correct Greek pronunciation. Perpetua would be a middle name.
What do you guys think? Too much?

Circe (the way you pronounce it) doesn't have a very nice sound IMO. Also, she would be constantly spelling out and repeating her name for people...it's just too unusual I think. Perpetua isn't one I care for either.

I absolutely love Perpetua; I think of St. Perpetua and of a sort of Sara Teasdale-esque "There Will Come Soft Rain" notion, that the world will continue and continue and continue...and all in all, I think it's really, really pretty.
I cannot warm up to Circe, though. I have a hard time saying it and all I can think of is Odysseus' crew being turned into pigs. ^^;;

Ha! That is exactly what Circe brought to my mind. Am I in the minority for loving The Odyssey?

I love the name Circe. I'm usually not that into names which are too heavily associated to one particular person or a character becauswe they're often very pompous or cheesy, but Circe isn't tacky or prentious at all. That's why I think it's perfectly usable, and very pretty.

I prefer it pronounced SEER-see, though I can see that kir-KEE is probably the correct Greek pronunciation. In any case, it's lovely, and I really like Perpetua as well. It makes a very nice combo.

I was looking the name circe up, and it says it is pronounced like SUR-see. But you could pronounce it anyway that you wanted to of course. :)

when I studied Classics at school, we always pronounced the name SIR-kay.

SUR-see is a very Anglicised pronunciation. It's quite alright to pronounce it that way, but it's also quite alright to use the Greek pronunciation.

As far as I know (from first year mythology classes), it's KIR-kee not kir-KEE. I don't really like it but it's not terrible.
Perpetua is an ok middle name.

I know that conversation predates me by years, but if you read all those posts in order, from the original to the first response, then second, etc, I believe Pavlos was saying emphasis on the second syllable of Nephele, not Circe. He was responding not to his own response, but to blackapple's comment, an earlier response, about Nephele. He had already clearly stated that Circe is KEERkee. If I'm wrong we can always ask the Anagram King himself.

I suppose it doesn't really matter since Siri says she can't hear emphasis anyway.

I am unable to hear the emphasis on syllables.
My dad is the same way, as is my brother. So when I write them, most times I am guessing. KIR-kee and kir-KEE sound the exact same to me - period. h
