[Opinions] Hardy har har (m)
The recent post about Harper got me thinking. Are there any names beginning the same way that you actually like? Names like Harmony, Harvey, Harley and so forth? I personally don't care any for them myself. I've always thought that 'har' sound to be quite harsh and unpleasant and yes, brings to mind a certain nonesensical phrase as the title suggests. If I absolutely had to pick one though, I'd go with Harley. Unlike the others, this one I can tolerate a bit more.
What about names ending in the same suffix? (That 'per' sound) the only one I can think of off the top of my head is 'Juniper' which I've always found quite silly, though also very whimsical as well. What are any of your thoughts or impressions? (:*~Rate my PNLs!~*https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/190318/127682 Boys

I knew sisters who had a brother named Harley. It was 'because' it had been their mother's birth ln; however, she married a Mr Lee! And I always marvelled at the thought of choosing to have a son called Harley Lee.Of all the names that have been mentioned in this thread, I only really like Harriet, which in my dialect at least doesn't have the actual Har- sound you get in Harley and Harper and the rest.

I kinda like Haru. Tho it would feel strange for me to use a Japanese name.
I knew a Harshita and that is a neat name imo. Can't really do that either though.
Harlan is alright for a guy.I think if had to name a daughter something that started with a Hah(r) sound I'd go with Holland. I guess it's kind of dumb, to name a person Holland? but it's appealing somehow, and not outrageous - and it's not objectively any dumber than naming a person "harper," as a personal name, is it?If it has to be Har- spelling ... I dunno, I'd invent a name. I'll try to think of one and if I do, I'll edit it in.-per names for gals: I dunno, -per words in general are not namey at all to me, they have a certain feeling to them... Whippersnapper. Super duper. Jeepers creepers. I dislike Juniper and Piper, a lot. The only other one that jumps to my mind is Tipper, as in Tipper Gore of "parental advisory" infamy. I grew up hearing about her, so the name seems sorta normal to me and feels like it works (though I don't like it at all, it seems less annoying than Piper and Juniper). Vesper is annoying too, sounds too much like whisper and Hester. I don't mind Jasper and Caspar for guys, probably because I have known of them as names for longer than I can remember.

It sounds like harsh, harlot, harpy, harmful, horror, heart, harmonize, hardy, but I don't generally notice. I'd say it's, um...dramatic and active sounding rather than harsh. It's like the color red.I like some but probably not enough that I'd consider using them.I've warmed up to Harmony a bit lately. I think it's fun and bright seeming in certain combos.Harriet

HarshalNot all of them truly have the hahr sound, though.I'd probably use Hart or Harmony for that sound, if I had to.Casper, Vesper, and Prosper are some of my favorite names. Juniper is ok, but the "niper" part sounds a bit silly to me.

I'm not a huge fan. I think it sounds kind of harsh and, uh, dumb. I like it in Harmony because the meaning of the word is so precious and warm, and I also think the other sounds in Harmony are melodious and nice. Harley just seems - I hate saying "dumb" because it feels mean but it really just seems dumb. Harley and Carly - it just seems like babies putting blocks together. Harper is harsh and stiff to me, Harvey also feels dumb and it makes my brain go kind of static like some names do.

Not particularly, no. Harriet isn't bad, but it's rather drab. Hartley is NMS but unobjectionable as far as unisex surname names go. Harvey is a GP of mine. Per... I like Jasper, Juniper, and Prosper.

I think Harvey is kind of charming, in a nerdy way. Harmony is okay, but the 'Har-' sound definitely works better on guys. Same with the '-per' ending; Jasper, Jesper, Prosper, etc. I used to like Hesper for girls, but now it's a little harsh and hissy for me.
