[Opinions] Hemlock
Heyyy it's Laurenilene. Probably no one remembers me, but I'm back for a second to ask about the name Hemlock xD
What do you think? Is the association with the poisonous flower a good or a bad thing? Any cool nn ideas?

It’s a terrible association. Why would anyone want to be named like something that gives you a horrible death and was used to administer the death penalty in Ancient Greece? You might as well be named Cyanide or Hanging Tree.
I have it as a guilty pleasure. I'm not sure if it would work in real life, but I do know of a nameberry user who apparently had a Hemlock (and it worked fine). It comes across as sweet and boyish to me.
Yeah, the poison ruins it for me but somehow Oleander doesn't. Weird.
Don't like it at all
I like hemlocks! The plants are poisonous, and the tree burns hot. They're associated with necromancers and regret, respectively.
There's a Robert Frost poem that goes,
The way a crow
Shook down on me
The dust of snow
From a hemlock tree
Has given my heart
A change of mood
And saved some part
Of a day I had rued.
In the language of flowers it means, "You will be my death."
It's perfect for an Addams Family member, but I don't think the average person is fabulous enough to pull off the cynicism it generally evokes. Rue would be more average and subtle.
...I did used to know someone who I think could have pulled it off; he was a Quaker, tended to wear black kilts (sometimes with a top hat), and had a guinea pig named Precious. So maybe it would work ok if you live in Asheville.

Absolute nonsense, as you must surely be aware.
Sounds like a good name for a fantasy villain, but a real child today? Nope.
very bad idea ...
The association with the poison is the only association with the word hemlock that anybody is likely to have. It's not a name and never has been; at most some emo-goth kid might call themselves that as they mope through the internet complaining about how they hate everyone for not being so emo-goth and at the same time wondering why nobody talks to them or takes them seriously.

It would be a fantastic name for a cat, preferably a black cat since it has a bit of a goth edge. For a child, not so much.
