[Opinions] Solace
Somebody used the name Solace on one of these boards recently (can't find it now of course, sorry!). I actually am coming to really like it. Do you like it, and do you like it better for boy or girl?*******************Personal Name List:https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/187938Guilty Pleasure Name List:https://www.behindthename.com/pnl/187938/140061

Does it seem like the board has been even more flooded with “could this random word be a name?” posts than usual lately? I blame the Kardashian-Jenners for the uptick. And the recent winter student break.Solace is definitely one of the nicer ones, but it does remind me of Colace stool softener.

I feel like I want to sneer about it being unfair to the child (being expected to be parents' Solace or something), but when I think about it potentially being my name or instead as if the parents want the child to always have Solace, I don't dislike it.I'd assume girl about like I would Mercy or Sojourner, but I know there are boys with those names, and I don't really care.

Nope, don't like it. Not because i couldn't get used to it as a name, but because its meaning itself implies not only comfort, but comfort in a time of sorrow. It's bittersweet. I love Tristan, for instance, but I couldn't use it for a son. I speak Romance languages and its meaning of sadness is too straightforward for me.

Definitely a girl name, if it's a name at all. I've heard worse, but the similar look and sound of Solange pleases me more.

Huh. I've never heard it as a name before. It's actually kind of nice!

I go back and forth. I think I prefer Soledad. But I get the attraction of Solace too. It also reminds me of Solstice, as a GP middle name.

I like Solstice too! It's one of my hippie guilty pleasures lol.

This is one of my guilty pleasure names. I like it better on a girl.

Alanis Morissette has a daughter named Onyx Solace. It has a pretty sound. I'm a bit torn on the meaning. Comfort in a time of distress could be positive, but I strongly associate the word with periods of grief. Which just makes me feel sad upon hearing it. I think I like it slightly more for a girl, but it's pretty unisex to me.
