[Opinions] Re: What are the least attractive English names?
in reply to a message by Weaver
I'll get some backlash for some of these but...
Gertrude, Gladys, Eula, Beulah, Eugene, Gene, Cletus, Eustace, Harold, Carl, Eunice, Bertha, Blanche, Dorcas, Gomer, Nimrod, Horace, Ethel, Imogen, Ralph, Abner, Barbara, Edna, Phyllis, Mildred, Muriel, Arlene, Myrtle, Lloyd, Leonard, Howard, Sheldon, Orville, Herman, Elmer, Wilbur, Otis, Melvin, Donald, Merle, Egbert, Milton, Herbert, Hubert
Please rate my "Names I would Use" list & "Backup Favorites" list. Feel free to rate some of my other lists too if you have the time.

Yeah I guess I should have anticipated several of these being peoples grandparents names lol
I largely agree with this list, except I have fond memories of my grandfathers Eugene (nickname Gene) and Orville so it’s hard for me to say those names are awful. I’m not offended if you hate them though.
I would add Gretchen to this list.
I would add Gretchen to this list.
I pretty much don’t like any female names in my family or my husband’s family to use as an honor name, so I get it. I don’t particularly like Orville but I associate good memories with it. I do like Eugene/Gene though!
Gretchen just sounds like wretch or retch, neither of which have a good meaning. I guess if I stop exaggerating the R sound in the name it is cuter. I admit I probably exaggerate the sound to reflect my feeling of the name…

He was a great guy, I called him Bebop :)
Like I said, he didn't like his name either. My other grandpa was named LeRoy and he wasn't crazy about it so it seems to be a running theme in my family! I guess they were both better off than one of my great-grandpas, his name was Adolph.
