[Opinions] Veryan
I was watching a programme Cornwall:A Year By the Sea yesterday evening and one of the people running the hotel was a woman called Veryan.
The site gives Veryan as a user submitted masculine name. WDYT of Veryan and do you think it would sound better on a boy or a girl?
Spell Checker Blues
Eye halve a spelling chequer
It came with my pea sea
It plainly marques four my review
Miss steaks Eye kin knot sea.
Eye strike a key and type a word
And weight four it two say
Weather eye am wrong oar write
It shows me strait a weigh.

The history is interesting. I would have guessed it was central Asian! Because I think of Narayan, Varenya, and Vera diminutives like Verusha, Veranya.
How is it pronounced?
I guess it's unisex, considering it's been used that way where it originated and seems ambiguous to me.

It reminds me a little of Vernon, and I see Ryan in it.
I also thought of Varian, which is rarely used but when it is used, it's for boys.
So I'm leaning towards it being masculine. It's not very appealing to me, but neither is it very unappealing. It's interesting and nifty.
The word Very in it, is probably my least favorite thing. The pronunciation is ambiguous (I've never heard of Veryan). I'm assuming it's pronounced like "Very-an" or "Vair-yun" (?) but it could be Veh-Ryan or Vurr-Yan.
I think it works for a gal too, like Vivian does, and like Devon does. Just a little more appealing for a guy, imo.

Veryan is one of my GPs for a boy. It reminds me of Valerian, but seems a little more... practical? Still not the most practical name outside of Great Britain, though.
I wouldn't have imagined it on a girl, but I suppose it's like Devon in that respect.

Very interesting that that was her name or that the show used that name. It hit me to google that region in Cornwall..
