Marlene looks German to me and therefore sounds like mar-LAY-na inside my head. I don't like the look of Marlena, but at least it couldn't be pronounced mar-LEEN, which is really very flat and dull and ugly. I dislike most -ine and -een names, but mar-LEEN is really bad.
